Advanced Technology Directorate
The Advanced Technology Directorate provides the National Cancer Institute (NCI) with an integrated set of leading-edge life sciences technologies in a cost-effective manner to enhance the translation of research from the bench to bedside.
Program areas include genetics and genomics, proteins and proteomics, image analysis, computational infrastructure, and graphics and media support. The directorate is also involved in the Work for Others program and the Economy Act, with its technologies available to grantees and academic institutes.

AIDS and Cancer Virus Program Directorate
The AIDS and Cancer Virus Program (ACVP) conducts multidisciplinary basic and applied research in molecular virology, viral pathogenesis, viral immunology, and the evaluation of experimental treatments and preventive antiviral interventions, with an emphasis on studies potentially relevant to more effective diagnosis, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS, and HIV-related malignancies.

The Basic Science Directorate includes both investigator-initiated research and support laboratories. Laboratory Animal Sciences Directorate
The Laboratory Animal Sciences Directorate provides scientific support services, including molecular technologies and model development, animal imaging, and conventional and molecular pathologic analysis for investigators performing animal-based research.
The directorate also provides high-quality animal care and support services for all animal research at NCI-Frederick and Bethesda, ensuring that investigators' needs are met through the use of healthy animals that are appropriate for the research requirement; and that all animals are housed, handled, and cared for in a humane manner in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Clinical Research Directorate
The Clinical Research Directorate joins together programs at the clinical end of the translation spectrum. It provides clinical research support and management for clinical trials, quality assurance for vaccine and biological agent production at the National Institutes of Health, and regulatory support for clinical research.
The directorate also supports major clinical programs within NCI and the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases; establishes quality control systems at the Vaccine Pilot Plant and BDP before initiation of manufacturing; and follows through on all regulatory aspects of production, including support for investigational new drugs.

Applied and Developmental Directorate
The Applied and Developmental Directorate includes the Clinical Services Program (CSP), the Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP) Support Group, and an administrative support group.
CSP comprises 15 laboratories for clinical trial support, including processing and cryopreservation of clinical materials; sequential studies of immune function in patients with cancer, AIDS, and other infectious diseases; research in chronic granulomatous disease and other diseases associated with immune deficiency or autoimmunity; testing of viral burden; identification of viral quasi-species; and determination of viral mutations associated with drug resistance. The DTP Support Group focuses on drug discovery and characterization, identification of new therapeutic molecular targets, and evaluation of samples and results from animal models for potential therapeutic value.

Biopharmaceutical Development Program Directorate
The Biopharmaceutical Development Program (BDP) supports the Biological Resources Branch, the Developmental Therapeutics Program, the Division of Cancer and Treatment Diagnosis, and NCI.
BDP provides leading-edge development of monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, peptide and DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) vaccines, virus vaccines and oncolytic viruses, gene therapy products, and other biological agents. The directorate also maintains current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)-compliant facilities that provide complete support, from manufacturing feasibility through process development and clinical manufacturing, with all required regulatory documentation.

Vaccine Clinical Materials Directorate
The Vaccine Clinical Materials Directorate, a part of the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) mission, conducts research to develop effective vaccines for human diseases.
The Vaccine Pilot Plant provides a government-owned, contractor-operated facility to further the development of vaccine candidates discovered through VRC basic research or collaborations that address some of the most important worldwide infectious diseases, including AIDS, influenza, and possible bioterrorism agents.

The Contracts & Acquisition Directorate comprises the Purchasing, Research Subcontracts, Construction Subcontracts and Logistics operations. The Directorate provides effective and efficient acquisition and logistics services that support the attainment of NCI's science objectives.
Our acquisition and logistical services support extends beyond the OTS Contract and serves as a facility-wide resource for all NCI-Frederick contractors, supporting senior NCI management in Bethesda, as well as other NIH initiatives worldwide. The Contracts and Acquisitions Directorate embraces industry best practices to provide timely solutions to customer requirements that meet or exceed industry benchmarks to provide all goods and services, receipt, inspection and delivery services, fleet program, property management, mail services, and domestic and international shipping services.

The Facilities, Maintenance and Engineering (FME) directorate specializes in planning, design, and execution of facility improvements and advances for the technologically complex NCI-Frederick facilities. Our experience, alternate acquisition strategies, and close working relationships with scientists, directorate staff, and administrative management stimulate innovative and cost-competitive solutions to the evolving scientific research and technology needs at NCI-Frederick.
