Overview
SAIC-Frederick provides leading-edge expertise and technologies primarily in support of NCI investigators, although other government and nongovernment scientists can also access most of the research support services offered through the Economy Act and the fee-for-service programs, respectively. Technologies available through these programs on a fee-for-service basis include:
Proteomics
Technologies are available for identifying and characterizing the protein signatures of human cancer cells and tissues and for applying proteomics technologies directly to patient diagnosis, toxicity monitoring, and therapeutic intervention.
Genetics and Genomics
SAIC-Frederick has many services available, including genotyping, array technologies, DNA sequencing, gene expression, and miRNA analysis.
Imaging
Services include small-animal imaging in a multimodality facility with adjacent vivarium. Imaging technologies include a clinical-grade magnetic resonance imager, optical imager, fluorescence imager, small positron emission tomography scanner, and ultrasound.
Nanotechnology
Nanoparticles are characterized by physical attributes, in vitro biological properties, and in vivo compatibility using animal models. The time required to characterize nanomaterials from receipt through the in vivo phase is anticipated to be one year.
Biopharmaceutical Production
Services include leading-edge development of monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, peptide and DNA vaccines, virus vaccines and oncolytic virus, gene therapy products, and other biological agents.
Mouse Models
SAIC-Frederick operates the Mouse Models of Human Cancers Consortium (MMHCC) Repository, an NCI-funded resource for mouse cancer models and associated strains.
